How to test a controller for stick drift

Connect it
Plug the controller in by USB or pair it over Bluetooth with this phone or computer.

Press any button
Browsers only reveal a controller after a button press - it lights up in the tester straight away.

Leave the sticks alone
Run the drift test and don't touch the sticks for 3 seconds. A healthy stick stays dead centre.

Roll and press everything
Circle both sticks fully, then press every button and trigger to find dead spots or sticky inputs.

How do I test my controller for stick drift?
Connect the controller, press any button, then leave both sticks untouched. If the stick position on screen moves away from centre or keeps flickering, the stick is drifting. The tester runs a 3-second drift test and flags it for you.
What is stick drift?
Stick drift is when your controller registers movement while you're not touching the stick - your character walks or the camera pans on its own. It's caused by wear inside the analog stick module, dust, or a damaged stick.
Does it work with PS5, PS4, Xbox and Switch controllers?
Yes. It works with PS5 DualSense and DualSense Edge, PS4 DualShock 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Elite Series 2, Switch Pro, SCUF and most PC gamepads, over USB or Bluetooth, in desktop and mobile browsers.
Can calibrating my controller fix stick drift?
Calibration corrects a stick that rests slightly off-centre or doesn't reach its full range, and you can do it here for DualSense and DualShock 4 over USB. It can't fix a worn stick module: if the drift comes back, the module needs replacing - ideally with a TMR (magnetic) stick that doesn't wear out.
Is the controller tester free and safe?
Completely free, with nothing to install. It uses your browser's standard Gamepad API and everything happens on your device - no controller data is recorded or uploaded.
My controller has drift - what now?
Drift means the stick module is worn. We repair it or upgrade it to TMR (magnetic, contactless) sticks that don't drift. Post it to us from anywhere in the world or drop it off at our London workshop.
