What โwon't turn onโ looks like
Dead consoles aren't all dead in the same way. What yours does when you press the button tells us where to start.
No lights, no sound, nothing
Not even a flicker. Often the power supply, sometimes a short on the board that stops the supply from starting.
Beeps once, then nothing
The PS5 registers the button but never starts: no light, no fan. That points at a power fault rather than a dead button.
Turns on, then straight off
Lights up for a second or two and shuts down. Protection kicking in, from a supply that can't hold up or a short on the board.
Dead after a power cut or surge
A surge can take out the supply, or get past it to the board. Try another wall socket first, without the extension lead.
Only works if the lead is wiggled
The power socket can work loose or burn. Stop wiggling it: arcing in a loose socket makes the damage worse.
Died mid-game
Switched off and won't come back. Tell us if it was running hot or loud beforehand. It helps the diagnosis.
Keeps shutting itself down
If it does start but turns off under load, that's often heat rather than power.
Overheating repair โPowers on, but no picture
Light on, fan spinning, TV says no signal? That isn't a power fault.
HDMI port repair โ
Power supply or board? That's the diagnosis
PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S all have the power supply built in. Mains comes in, the supply turns it into the low voltages the board runs on, and the board decides whether to start. When any step fails, the result looks the same from outside: nothing happens.
Most no-power faults are one of two things. The supply has failed, often after a surge or simply with age, and needs replacing. Or something on the board has shorted and is pulling the supply down, which takes board-level repair: finding the failed part and replacing it.
We test the supply on its own first, then the board, so you're not paying for a part that wasn't the problem. If it turns out to need more than this repair covers, we tell you and you decide before we go any further. No fix, no fee: go ahead and the diagnosis is included.
Go ahead with the repair and the diagnosis is included free. Decide not to, and there's a ยฃ35 diagnostic fee. Either way you know what's wrong and what it costs before any work starts.

What the repair includes
- Diagnosis: the supply tested on its own, then the board (included when you go ahead)
- Power supply replaced with a quality part if that's the fault
- Board-level repair if the fault is on the motherboard
- Console tested before it goes back
- Photos or video of the work on request
- 12-month warranty on the repair
Paying
- Drop-off: pay at the workshop once it's fixed.
- Mail-in: pay online by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
- Or spread it over 3 payments with Klarna or Clearpay.
Try this before you book
- 1Unplug the power lead at both ends for a minute, then plug it straight into a wall socket. No extension lead or surge strip.
- 2Try a different power lead. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S use the same two-pin figure-of-eight lead as plenty of TVs and speakers.
- 3Unplug everything else: USB drives, headsets, controllers on charge.
- 4Still dead? Leave it unplugged and stop trying it. Repeated attempts on a shorted board don't help.

Questions people ask
How much is a PS5 no power repair?
PS5 ยฃ149.99 and PS5 Pro ยฃ149.99. That's the fixed price to diagnose and repair a PS5 that won't power on, whether it's the supply or the board. For a PS5 Slim, ask us for a quote.
How much is an Xbox Series X or Series S that won't turn on?
Xbox Series X ยฃ169.99 and Xbox Series S ยฃ149.99, covering diagnosis and repair of the supply or the board.
Do you charge for diagnosis?
No fix, no fee. If you go ahead with the repair, the diagnosis is included free. If we diagnose it and you decide not to go ahead, there's a ยฃ35 diagnostic fee. Either way you know exactly what's wrong and what it costs before any work starts.
How long does a no power repair take?
Usually 3-5 days. Tracing a board fault takes longer than swapping a supply, and we keep you updated. When we're very busy a repair can take up to 7-10 working days, and we'll tell you if that's the case.
My PS5 beeps once and then nothing happens. Can it be fixed?
Often, yes. One beep with no light or fan means the console has seen the button press but can't start, which points at a power fault. That's exactly what this repair covers.
It died after a power cut. Is it the power supply?
Often, but not always. A surge can kill the supply outright or get through it to the board. We test the supply on its own first so you know which it was.
Do you repair PS4s that won't turn on?
PS4 Pro is ยฃ89.99. For an original PS4 or a PS4 Slim, send us a quote request with what it does when you press the button and we'll come back to you with a price.
Will I lose my games and saves?
Power repairs don't involve the storage, so the console normally comes back with everything as it was.
What if it isn't worth fixing?
We'll say so. If you decide not to go ahead after the diagnosis, the ยฃ35 diagnostic fee applies. If the console isn't worth fixing to you, we can buy it from you as it is through Sell Your Tech.
Can I post my console in?
Yes, from anywhere in the UK. Choose your console above, pay online, add a prepaid tracked label at checkout if you want one, and post it in. It comes back to you tracked, free. Console repairs are a UK service, so we can't accept consoles posted from abroad.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Every repair we do carries a 12-month warranty on the parts we fit and the work.
Not worth fixing?
If the repair costs more than the console is worth to you, we'll buy it as it is. Or skip the wait with a refurbished console, tested and with a 12-month warranty.
