PS5 Slim shutting itself off, throwing "too hot" warnings or sounding like a jet engine? That's almost always the cooling. We open it up, deep clean the heatsink and fan, and redo the liquid metal on the main chip.
Why the Slim overheats
The Slim is compact and has a lot less liquid metal on the chip than the original PS5, so it shutting off mid-game is one of the most common jobs on our bench. Liquid metal dries out over time, and on a console that's stood upright gravity pulls it down and leaves dry spots on the chip. Best to sort it before it damages the board.
What we do
- Diagnose it first. Go ahead and the diagnosis is included: no fix, no fee.
- Strip it down to the cooling assembly and clear the packed dust from the heatsink fins and fan blades.
- Clean off the old liquid metal and apply fresh, dammed and levelled the way it left the factory. Liquid metal conducts electricity, so this is done carefully, never slapped on.
- Reassemble and test it under load.
- Photos or video of the inside, before and after, on request.
Loud fan? This is the repair to book: a roaring fan is the console working flat out because the heat can't get away. The technician checks the fan while it's open, and if the fan itself has failed they quote a replacement before doing anything extra.
Afterwards, lay it flat. It's what we tell every customer: it takes gravity out of the equation and the fresh metal lasts a lot longer.

About this repair
An overheating PS5 Slim is almost always an inside problem: dust packed into the heatsink and fan, and a worn liquid metal layer between the processor and the heatsink. We strip it down to the cooling assembly, clear the dust and renew the liquid metal for £74.99. Typical repair time is 2-3 hours once it is on our bench. The service is covered by our 12-month repair warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you replace the liquid metal on a PS5 Slim?
Yes. Liquid metal is what Sony uses on the PS5, so that is what goes back on: the old metal is cleaned off and fresh liquid metal is applied with the area dammed and levelled. We do not swap it for paste.
What if the fan itself is faulty?
A fan that rattles, grinds or will not spin up needs replacing rather than cleaning. That is a separate service and we tell you before doing anything extra.
How often should a PS5 Slim have this done?
There is no fixed schedule. Dust build-up depends on the room, pets and how much the console is used. If it is getting louder or hotter than it used to, it is due.
How long will the repair take?
We aim to complete repairs as safely and as soon as possible, however note it can take up to 3-5 days or longer depending on parts availability. When we're busy, a repair or upgrade can be delayed by up to 7-10 working days - we do everything we can to avoid that and keep you updated.
How do I send my console in?
As soon as you have completed your order we will send you a confirmation email. In the UK that includes your prepaid tracked label (if you chose one at checkout) - a QR code to use at your local Post Office. Outside the UK we send our workshop address and shipping instructions so you can post your console in. Once repaired, we ship it back to you tracked at no charge - UK and international.

Yes - book a drop-off at our London workshop (Unit 9, Hatcham Road, London, SE15 1TR); visits are by appointment. Console repairs are a UK-only service, so mail-in is available from anywhere in the UK.
