MacBook Pro 15-inch Touch Bar 2016-2017 Flexgate Repair
Flexgate is a fault on 2016-2017 MacBook Pros like the MacBook Pro 15-inch Touch Bar 2016-2017 (A1707): the backlight cable is short and wears as the lid opens and closes, so the screen goes dark past a certain angle and shows a "stage light" glow along the bottom. We repair the cable rather than replacing the whole screen. It costs £149.99. It usually takes 2-3 working days once we have your MacBook. Every repair carries a 12-month warranty on parts and labour.

Signs your MacBook Pro 15 2016-2017 (A1707) needs this
- The screen goes dark when you open the lid past roughly 40 to 60 degrees
- Bright "stage light" patches along the bottom edge of the screen
- The backlight flickers or cuts out as you move the lid
- Everything shows normally on an external monitor
What causes it

- After years of opening and closing, the cable wears through or cracks
How we fix it
- We confirm Flexgate by testing the backlight at different lid angles
- We open the display hinge area and replace the worn backlight cable with a longer one, so it no longer pulls tight
- We test the backlight through the full range of lid movement
- We send you photos of the finished repair before it ships back

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Flexgate repair cheaper than a new screen?
Yes. Flexgate repair on the MacBook Pro 15 2016-2017 (A1707) is £149.99. We repair the backlight cable instead of replacing the whole display, which is the dearer job.
Which MacBooks get Flexgate?
The 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro 13-inch (A1706, A1708) and 15-inch (A1707). Later models used a longer cable.
How do I get my MacBook Pro 15 2016-2017 (A1707) to you?
Post it to us from anywhere in the UK: add a prepaid Royal Mail label at checkout and you get a QR code to show at any Post Office, so there is nothing to print. A MacBook always goes as a Medium parcel; pack it in a padded box with at least 5 cm of padding all round and leave the charger at home unless we ask for it. We post it back tracked. In London you can also drop it off at our workshop by appointment.
Is the flexgate repair covered by a warranty?
Yes: a 12-month warranty on parts and labour, the same as every OG Repairs repair. The warranty covers the work we did and the parts we fitted; it does not cover new accidental or liquid damage, or normal battery wear over time.
Will I lose my data, and do you need my password?
A repair like this does not touch your files, and for most hardware repairs we do not need your password: Apple Diagnostics runs before anyone signs in. Back up with Time Machine before you send it anyway, as you would before any repair. If a test ever needs a login, we ask you to set up a temporary account rather than share yours.
What our repair customers say
Real Google reviews from people whose consoles and controllers we've repaired. MacBook repairs are new here, so there are no MacBook reviews yet, and we won't make any up.
- Rob Durkin★★★★★
Was suffering from stick drift on my PS5 controller so sent it in to OG Repairs for an upgrade to the TMR Gulikit sticks. Photos showing the upgrades, a video pre-upgrade confirming stick drift, then a video post-upgrade showing it was gone. Very impressed and will return.
- D1★★★★★
Quick repair - the DualSense comes back with a second life! Love them sharing photos and videos about the repair as well. Thanks OG Repairs.
- Sarah W★★★★★
Absolutely quality repair team. They were quick and efficient with the way they repaired my controller. The video and picture of it being repaired was also a nice touch - definitely would choose them again.
